【下位】 curious plant of arid regions of southwestern Africa having a yard-high and yard-wide trunk like a turnip with a deep taproot and two large persistent woody straplike leaves growing from the base; living relic of a flora long disappeared; some may be 700-5000 years old アフリカ南西部の乾燥地帯に生える珍奇な植物で、高さ幅ともに1ヤードのカブラのような幹と深く伸びる直根を持ち、宿存の大きな木性のひも状の葉が2枚基部から生えている。大昔に滅びた植物の残存種。いくつかは、700才から5000才であるかもしれない。
