a form of muscular dystrophy that sets in in adolescence or adulthood and progresses slowly but will affect all voluntary muscles; characterized by generalized weakness and muscle wasting that affects limb and trunk muscles first; similar to Duchenne's muscular dystrophy but less severe; inheritance is X-linked recessive (carried by females but affecting only males) 青春期または成人期に発症し、ゆっくり進行するが、すべての随意筋に影響を及ぼす筋ジストロフィーの形態。最初に手足と胴の筋肉に影響を与える筋肉の衰弱と倦怠感によって特徴づけられる。デュシェンヌの筋ジストロフィーと同様であるが、それほど重度ではない。遺伝的形質は、X連鎖劣性形質である（女性によって運ばれるが、男性だけに影響する）。
